What we collect

When you check in with a tOkn coin, we collect the name you choose, where you are at the time of check-in, the time, and anything you write (a message, a local tip, a line of the coin's story). When you register a coin we also keep its name and story. We store your email address so you can sign in and so we can tell you when your coins move. If you set a nickname or bio, or post in a coin's thread, we keep those too.

Why we collect it

Location is used to plot each coin's journey on its map and work out how far it has travelled. Your email is used to sign you in and to send notifications about coins you have held, which you can turn off. We don't send marketing emails, and we don't sell your data to anyone, ever.

Who can see it

Your check-in name, place and words are visible to anyone who views the coin's page and map. Your email address is never shown publicly. Thread messages can only be read by people who have held that coin, and by tOkn's moderators.

Keeping it safe for everyone

Before anything you write goes live, it is checked automatically for personal details (like phone numbers, emails or someone's home address) and for abuse. Part of that check is done by Anthropic's Claude, which reads the words you submitted and nothing else, and does not use them to train its models. Posts that look unsafe may be refused or held for a person at tOkn to review, and we keep a record of those so repeated abuse can lead to a ban.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications, we store a token from your browser or iPhone that lets us send them. Turning notifications off, or deleting your account, removes it.

How long we keep it and deleting it

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings on your dashboard, in the app or on the web. That deletes your profile, sign-in details and notification settings. Coins keep travelling after you leave, so your stops stay on their journeys as "A former keeper", with your name, email, words and exact location removed. Records of refused posts and bans are kept so a ban can't be undone by deleting an account.

Cookies

We use a cookie and a small amount of local storage to keep you signed in and remember your settings. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

Visit statistics

To see how the site is used, we count page visits ourselves. For each visit we record the page, the site that linked you here, your rough location (country and city) and whether you're on a phone or computer. We don't store your IP address or set a cookie for this, and the anonymous visitor id changes every day, so visits can't be linked back to you or followed over time.

Who we work with

tOkn runs on Vercel (hosting) and Supabase (database). Emails are sent by Resend, and iPhone notifications through Apple. Anthropic checks posts as described above. Maps use OpenStreetMap data via Leaflet, with map tiles from CARTO, Esri and OpenTopoMap, and place search uses a geocoding service. Each of them only gets what it needs to do its job.
